Working Waterman Story
Johnny is a lifelong St. Mary’s County, Maryland working waterman. He has worked aboard boats throughout Southern Maryland, harvesting Rockfish, Bluefish, Perch, Menhaden and bait fish, crabs, and oysters.
As senior hired crew, Johnny brings the hands-on experience captains depend on. His work includes installing pound nets, driving poles, hanging net, building and repairing crab pots, working gear, sorting the harvest and helping bring the catch aboard.
He is often the heavy lifter—the person who knows what needs to be done before anyone has to ask. Years across the waterways of Southern Maryland have made him a valued hand to many captains and crews.
